The UW plays well in every facet to humble the visiting Utes.

The University of Washington basketball team took out all of its pent-up frustrations on Utah on Saturday night, embarrassing the hapless Utes 98-73 at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Trailing 5-3, the Huskies (12-9 overall, 4-6 Pac-12) took charge of this one with a 9-0 run capped by a Keion Brooks jumper, built a lead as large as 26 and broke a two-game losing streak.

A lot more has been expected this season from a UW team put together by Mike Hopkins with veteran transfers that were culled from the SEC, Big Ten and West Coast Conference, but these Huskies haven't been much better than a break-even team, leaving their coach on the hot seat once more.

However, they had everything working against Utah (14-7, 5-5), which had beaten them 95-90 in Salt Lake City in December.

The Huskies shot a blistering 57.4 percent (39 of 68) from the floor, including near 50 percent from 3-point range (11 of 24), won the rebound battle 28-23 and committed just 9 turnovers.

Brooks led the Huskies in scoring as he usually does with 27 points, hitting 10 of 17 shots, but he got a huge boost from Rutgers transfer Paul Mulcahy, who supplied a season-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

There's more.

Portland transfer Moses Wood added 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 4 of 8 from behind the line, and Kentucky transfer Sahvir Wheeler came up with a well-rounded line of 12 points, 10 assists and 3 steals.

The Huskies took the lead for good in this game at 6-5 with 17:45 left in the opening half when Wood hit a 3-pointer. They were up by 46-30 at intermission and were holding a 98-62 advantage until the Utes finished the game with a 9-0 run.

Hopkins' crew now breaks for a a week before hosting Washington State next Saturday in a 6 p.m. game at home.
