Huskies Make It Official with Christian King, Son of Ex-Sonic
The turnstile greeting people heading in and out of University of Washington basketball continues to spin at a dizzying rate.
On Friday, the Huskies officially made 6-foot-7 forward Christian King, who hails from Seattle Preparatory School and is the son of a former Seattle Sonics center, part of the program.
For those keeping score, Mike Hopkins' team has bid farewell to up to seven scholarship players since the season ended while adding four new faces, most recently the offspring of 7-foot-2 Rich King, the Sonics' No. 1 draft pick in 1991 out of Nebraska.
This King, while seven inches shorter than his dad, is known for his long-range shooting skills. In a Metro League tourney, he dazzled everyone by hitting 15 of 25 3-point shots and averaging 23 points per game while helping Seattle Prep finish third in the 2022 3A state tournament.
King represents half of the UW's incoming recruiting class that also features 6-foot-4 guard Wesley Yates from Beaumont, Texas.
They'll join transfers in 6-foot-8 forward Moses Wood from Portland and 6-foot-5 swingman Anthony Holland from Fresno State.
Each of these four comes advertised as proficient in 3-point shooting, which has been the Huskies' most persistent drawback in recent seasons.
They'll join UW scholarship returnees in forwards Keion Brooks and Samuel Ariyibi, centers Braxton Meah and Franck Kepnang, and guard Koren Johnson, plus up to four more newcomers.
