Portland transfer Moses Wood leads UW in scoring.

North of Paris, the greatly revamped University of Washington basketball team on Friday captured the first outing on its three-game European road trip, beating Cergy-Pontoise 92-80.

Portland transfer Moses Wood proved to be a somewhat surprising leading scorer for the UW the first time out, considering all of the manpower accumulated on Mike Hopkins' roster.

The 6-foot-8 Wood led all scorers with 22 points, demonstrating an effective outside touch. He connected on 8 of 13 shots, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range, and the UW collectively shot 60 percent from the floor.

Forward Keion Brooks, the Huskies' leading returning scorer, added 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

Brooks' former Kentucky teammate, point guard Sahvir Wheeler, stands to carry a big load for the Huskies as well, if not become a fan favorite and he had an exciting debut.

Wheeler completed a double-double outing in a big way with 16 points and 16 assists.

Lamar transfer Nate Calmese, a 6-foot-2 sophomore guard, came off the bench to score 13 for the UW.

Braxton Meah, the Huskies' returning 7-foot-1 center, chipped in a team-high 12 rebounds.
