Huskies' Jackson Grant Enters Transfer Portal
When Jackson Grant announced his commitment to Washington on November 9, 2019, it seemed to stop some of the bleeding coming from in-state recruiting. The four-star McDonalds All-American was ranked as the 77th overall prospect in the country, and third-best in the state of Washington when he signed.
However, once Grant got to Montlake, he struggled to get on the court. While the plan was originally to redshirt him in 2021, injuries and depth issues in the frontcourt forced him to play in 25 games.
While he saw a lot of action as a freshman, he struggled, averaging 1.1 points per game. Those numbers decreased during his sophomore season, when he played in only 14 games, and averaged 0.5 points per game.
He officially finished his career at Washington averaging 0.9 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks per game. Grant also shot 28 percent from the floor, and struggled from behind the three-point line, going 0-10 over two seasons.
A lot of players that have left head coach Mike Hopkins' offensive system have gone on to find success in other places, like former Washington guards Marcus Tsohonis and RaeQuan Battle. The former averaged 14.1 points per game at Long Beach State over the 2022-23 season, while the latter put up 16.7 at Montana State.
Grant will surely find a home quickly, as the Olympia High School product held offers from Stanford, Cal, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin when he decided to choose his hometown school.
Washington will probably turn to the transfer portal to add another big man to fill the void left by Grant and fellow transfer Langston Wilson. While names of potential additions will probably start circulating following March Madness, Hopkins is going to have to recruit like his job depends on it.
