Ladine Picks Up More Accolades for Her Performance Against Stanford
Tina Langley maintains a very buttoned-down approach when it comes to her University of Washington women's basketball team.
After the Huskies upset second-ranked Stanford, the second-year coach took great pains to keep things in perspective, to not get carried by a big moment.
She didn't gush over what happened, wouldn't call it a signature win nor did she single out any of her players' individual performances, instead stressing that it was a team-building effort.
Not once in the nearly seven-minute postgame interview period did the UW coach or her players bring up Elle Ladine's name after the freshman's breakout 21-point game in the Huskies' 72-67 victory on Sunday.
That's OK, because everyone else is paying homage to the 5-foot-11 guard from San Francisco, who came off the bench to hit 8 of 17 shots from the floor and lead all scorers.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) named Ladine as that national Freshman of the Week for her inspired play against the Cardinal, this coming a day after the Pac-12 selected her as the conference Freshman of the Week.
In 21 previous UW outings, Ladine had reached double-figures in scoring just twice, providing 10 points against Idaho State in the preseason and 10 more against California last Friday, before more than doubling her career best against Stanford.
