San Diego State has hired a third member of Kalen DeBoer's former University of Washington football coaching staff, adding Inoke Breckterfield on Monday as the Aztecs' defensive-line coach.

Breckterfield, 46, reunites with San Diego State's defensive coordinator Eric Schmidt and safeties coach C.J. McGorisk, who served as the edge coach and a quality coach, respectively, while in Montlake.

The Aztecs are coached by Sean Lewis, previously the Colorado offensive coordinator for Deion Sanders and before that the Kent State head coach who brought his to Seattle in 2022 for DeBoer's first game as the Husky coach.

Since DeBoer left the UW for Alabama, three of his Husky coaches still are looking for new jobs in co-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell, running-backs coach Lee Marks and cornerbacks coach Julius Brown.

Breckterfield, a former Oregon State standout and the 1999 Morris Trophy winner as the Pac-12's top defensive lineman, is a well-traveled coach will join his ninth college team in 19 seasons, which includes making stops in four of the Power 5 conferences.

DeBoer initially took five coaches with him from Seattle to Alabama in offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, offensive-line coach Scott Huff, receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard, tight-ends coach Nick Sheridan and linebackers coach William Inge.

However, Grubb and Huff since have been hired in the similar roles by the Seattle Seahawks, though the local NFL team hasn't officially announced these moves because of the blackout window on league news surrounding the Super Bowl.
