Brief Observations From Washington's Fourth Spring Practice
Washington's head coach Kalen DeBoer truly is a friend of the media. As he opens up more practices to the media, after being relatively guarded during his first season on Montlake, he did everyone a favor by closing off access halfway through practice before the team's Pro Day.
However, while there isn't necessarily a ton to report on from a practice where a lot of what was shown was individual drills, that doesn't mean that things weren't still happening at Husky Stadium. There were some new faces now that the spring quarter is underway, and one familiar face made a return that will surely make fans breathe a sigh of relief.
That being said, this is going to be a relatively short piece with a lot of notes that I was able to take over the two drives of 11 on 11's. With that being said, enjoy, and keep an eye out for reports from the Pro Day.
Edge rusher Maurice Heims made his return to the field after suffering a scary neck injury at the end of the team's first practice. He was not in pads but did have his helmet and participated in some drills.
Running back Dillon Johnson has arrived on Montlake, and physically, he's as advertised. Listed at 6'0 and 215 pounds might be underselling the Mississippi State transfer, as he's clearly spent a lot of time in a college weight room, and moves very well at his size.
The crown jewel of Washington's recruiting class, four-star cornerback Caleb Presley made his first appearance at practice as well. The product of Rainier Beach High School was working on fielding punts, which could be an early path to the field for the true freshman.
