Culp Provides Scouting Report: Expect Oregon, Colorado, Alcohol

Michigan State will provide rowdy, close-knit, first-time drinks atmosphere.

Doing intel, Devin Culp provided his own scouting report on Spartan Stadium, the site of this weekend's Washington-Michigan State football game.

The Husky tight end can tell you the 75,005-seat football facility smack in the middle of upstate Michigan is one part Autzen Stadium, one part Folsom Field and — coming to a concession stand near you in East Lansing for the very first time this Saturday — one part Happy Hour.

Culp, a 6-foot-4, 237-pound sixth-year senior from Spokane, Washington, said the Huskies should expect an enthusiastic welcome reminiscent of Oregon, especially with the volume levels.

"What I've kind of heard in comparison is it's kind of the rowdiness and loudness of Autzen," he said.

That's not all, though. Spartan Stadium, in its seating configuration, will provide the coziness of Colorado, where you can get to know the fans on a first-name basis for sure.

"[It's] almost like Colorado, when you're playing at Folsom and how close the sidelines are to you with the fans, and kind of feeling like they're right on top of you," Culp said.

And, finally, the Michigan schools were two of the last Big Ten holdouts to ratify the selling of alcohol to  fans at their stadiums. This summer, Michigan State voted to permit beverage sales an hour before the game and for the first 10 minutes of the third quarter, with customers permitted to buy just two drinks at a time.

Unable to set up staffing for the first two outings at home this season, Michigan State will use the Husky game as a test run for four games, which naturally will include a visit by rival Michigan.

"Michigan State is a party school," Culp said. "This will be the first time I believe they're serving at the game so their fans will be juiced up and ready to go."

So Oregon, Colorado and drinks all around await the Huskies on Saturday. Of course, no one said it was going to be easy.
