DeBoer Receives Fourth Coach of the Year Honor

The Husky leader continues to be recognized for his extraordinary Montlake success.

With the University of Washington football program signing new players on Wednesday before resuming CFP practices, Kalen DeBoer took yet another bow — becoming the Eddie Robinson Award winner as the national coach of the year.

It marked the fourth such honor that has come to the second-year Husky leader, following Associated Press, The Sporting News and Home Depot accolades.

DeBoer, shaking up the college football landscape with his unprecedented UW success, was rewarded this time by a vote of the Football Writers Association of America in conjunction with the Sugar Bowl. Eddie Robinson was a legendary Grambling coach.

DeBoer was chosen from a finalist field of David Braun from Northwestern; Jamey Chadwell of Liberty; Eliah Drinkwitz of Missouri; Jedd Fisch of Arizona; Rhett Lashlee of SMU; Chuck Martin of Miami (Ohio); Mike Norvell of Florida State; Barry Odom of UNLV; Nick Saban of Alabama; Steve Sarkisian of Texas; and Jon Sumrall of Troy. Six of those coaches won conference championships, as did DeBoer.

The UW coach has caught everyone's attention by leading the Huskies to a 13-0 season in just his second season, with a CFP semifinal game against Texas on Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl coming up.

DeBoer is 24-2 as the UW head coach, holding a 20-game winning streak as the Huskies enter the postseason. In nine seasons as a college head coach, he is 103-11.
