Fisch Cites Huskies Who've Been Helpful In Slowing Down Transfers
With players coming and going, in this new age of college football freedom, new University of Washington coach Jedd Fisch has needed locker room help in slowing movement to a trickle.
Fisch appreciates players making a public show on social media of how they stand with the Huskies, but their behind-the-scenes actions with teammates probably are even more helpful.
"While I appreciate guys doing that, it makes a big difference, but what I really would love everybody to do is play ball and in the locker room make sure guys don't leave," the coach said.
Fisch named senior linebacker Carson Bruener, junior cornerback Elijah Jackson, Mississippi State transfer quarterback Will Rogers, senior running back Cam Davis and even freshman offensive guard Paki Finau for taking the lead in this effort.
"Carson Bruener has done a great job of coming up here and talking to me," he said of a deeply invested legacy player, who's the son of former UW and NFL tight end Mark Bruener.
A college football coaching change these days practically guarantees major turnover in a program, no matter who's in charge.
When a coach swaps teams, it's literally a sign to some players they need to change their football situation just for the sake of change, as well.
"All those guys matter; everybody matters," Fisch said. "If we can get the whole team to be fully on board with what we're trying to get done right now, I believe that everybody who decides to come here will have made a good decision and everybody who decides to stay will also have made a good decision. We're looking to build this thing."
