Give Them Another High 5: Huskies Move Up in AP Poll

The UW uses 36-33 win over Oregon to elevate.

On an uplifting weekend for University of Washington football, the Huskies accepted yet another high 5.

Kalen DeBoer's team on Sunday used its thrilling 36-33 victory over the Oregon Ducks to move up to No. 5 in the Associated Press poll — the UW's highest ranking in six years.

The Huskies last reached the AP's fifth poll position on October 14, 2017, when they went to Arizona State with a 6-0 record and lost 13-7.

This time, they leapfrogged past Penn State and trail only Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Florida State in the AP rankings, falling behind the Seminoles by just 33 points in the balloting.

The Huskies (6-0 overall, 3-0 Pac-12) still have half of a regular season remaining to reach football's final four, which would make them College Football Playoff worthy.

The UW's hard-pressed win over Oregon was considered such a classic and a close matchup for both teams, the Ducks dropped only from No. 8 to 9th this week.

Six Pac-12 teams remain in the top 25 even though three of them — Oregon, USC and UCLA — were losers on Saturday. Oregon State (6-1, 2-1) jumped up to 12th in this week's poll.

The Huskies have an interesting game ahead, facing last-place Arizona State (1-5, 0-3), which is coming off a bye.

Thirteen games and 12 months ago, the lowly Sun Devils were the last team to beat the UW, taking a 45-38 upset victory in Tempe.
