Huskies Ranked At No. 10 in Opening AP Poll
College football season is officially upon us. Even though there are two weeks left in fall camp and three weeks remaining until Washington opens up its season against Boise State, the first AP poll rings the metaphorical bell of the season.
The Huskies have built up considerable momentum in the national media after finishing the 2022 season as the No. 8 team in the country in the AP poll and are starting the year at No. 10, the second-highest-ranked team in the Pac-12. They're behind only reigning Heisman winner Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans, who came in at No. 6.
The Pac-12 put up a strong showing in the first poll of the year, placing five teams in the rankings. Alongside the top 10 teams, the AP voters ranked Utah at No. 14, Oregon at No. 15 and Oregon State at No. 18. The Pac-12 and Big Ten tied for the second-most teams ranked, both sitting just behind the SEC, which is starting the year with six teams in the top 25.
Led by Kalen DeBoer and Heisman candidate, quarterback Michael Penix Jr., some voters have very high expectations for the Huskies. Namely, Pac-12 reporter Jon Wilner, who has Washington ranked as the No. 4 team in the country on his ballot to open the season.
This is lining up to be a very exciting year for the Huskies and the national media seems to agree ... for the most part. The majority of the AP Poll voters have Washington ranked between No. 8 and No. 12, with one exception. Colten Bartholomew of the Wisconsin State Journal put the Huskies at No. 20 to start the year.
