With adding a defensive lineman or two a high priority for the University of Washington football team before next season, Kalen DeBoer's staff has offered former Alabama defender Isaiah Hastings now in the transfer portal.

In this case, the Huskies are able to look only at potential rather than results — Hastings appeared in just one game over two seasons, covering four snaps, for the Crimson Tide.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive tackle is a late bloomer as a football player, someone who moved from Toronto to play an abbreviated senior high school season in Florida before joining the Southeastern Conference powerhouse and getting buried on the depth chart. One of his promising features is his 84-inch wingspan.

After playing seven games and collecting 24 quarterback hurries and 6 sacks in 2021 for Clearwater Academy International outside of Tampa, Hastings fielded 30 offers and chose the Crimson Tide over Florida, Georgia, Michigan and Oregon.

"What I really like about Alabama is that they're winners and they want to be the best," Hastings told SI All-American back then. "That's something I want to be, as well. From the outside looking in it's like, 'Oh Bama, they're very serious and militant.' "

His opportunities aren't quite so glamorous this time around with Troy, Memphis, Illinois, USF and Virginia Tech, plus the Huskies, reaching out with offers.

Alabama used Hastings only in a 63-7 victory over Louisiana-Monroe in 2022 and he collected a tackle in the non-conference outing.
