Everyone Squeeze In, Huskies Welcome Sellout for Utah Game
The last time the University of Washington and Utah football teams met, at the height of the COVID pandemic, the Husky Stadium attendance was reported as a paltry 259, a total that actually described the support crew on hand to put on a crowd-less game.
On Saturday, add at least another 70,000 or so to that total, with the UW announcing a sellout well in advance of the 12:30 p.m. game that will be televised by FOX.
This will mark the Huskies' second full house this season, coming a month after 71,321 people crammed into the stands for the UW-Oregon game.
Asked for a ballpark number of how many fans were expected for the Utah game, a school official pointed out that capacity is 70,038, so expect at least that much.
Since the 2013 Husky Stadium remodel, the UW's largest crowd has been 72,364 for the USC game three years later.
The Huskies have drawn 13 crowds of 70,000 or more in that decade, with Utah adding to the total.
The fifth-ranked and unbeaten Huskies (9-0 overall, 6-0 Pac-12) naturally have been a popular draw for fans this fall. Winning breeds interest.
A crowd of 67,475 showed up for the opener against Boise State, followed by 63,128 for Tulsa, 69,107 for California, 68,379 for Arizona State and the 71,000-plus for the Ducks.
Regardless of the team's success, the UW can always expect a big turnout for the Apple Cup against Washington State, which this time will be held on Nov. 25.
