Husky QB Commit Austin Mack Will Reclassify, Show Up Next Fall

The California recruit's stepped-up arrival will help UW with its position shortage.
In this story:

Quarterback Austin Mack, a 2024 University of Washington commitment, says he will reclassify and join the Huskies this coming fall rather than wait until the following year.

On Tuesday night, the touted 6-foot-6, 210-pound recruit from Folsom, California, made his intentions known on social media, which means he will graduate early and skip his entire senior year at Folsom High School.

Mack's actions insure the UW will have three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster going forward, joining starter Michael Penix Jr. and former starter Dylan Morris.

A 4-star recruit, Mack was one of two 2024 quarterbacks who had given a non-binding verbal commitment to Kalen DeBoer's coaching staff, joining EJ Caminong from Seattle's Garfield High.

This past season, Mack completed 269 of 382 passes for 3,448 yards and 40 touchdowns, with just 5 interceptions, for a 12-2 Folsom team.

Folsom quarterbacks, of course, have a reputation of being ready to play fairly early at the UW. It was nine years ago that Jake Browning left the same high school, joined Chris Petersen's Husky program and became an immediate and four-year starter at that position.

With Penix and Morris on hand, the UW won't need Mack to be ready to play right away, but his presence is a plus for the Huskies and insurance should an unfortunate injury or injuries happen.
