Jimmy Lake: “We Know They (Oregon) Will Have Some New Wrinkles For Us”
The Washington Husky’s defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake knows that the Oregon Ducks will present something different offensively when they fly into action Saturday at 12:30 down on Montlake. Something that the Ducks have not shown on tape yet in the 2019 season.
For one, that’s just what happens in this game. The Washington/Oregon game has not only become a clash of the Pac 12 North Titans, and one of the most heated rivalries in college sports...but there are so many potential implications for the winner and the loser of this game. For the Huskies, it is a must win game if they want to have any chance to repeat as Pac 12 champions. For the Ducks, a win would put them in the drivers seat - and in complete control of the Pac 12 North. This is a game where both teams will be pulling out all stops to secure the win.
Another reason that Coach Lake is expecting a wrinkle or two from the Ducks this Saturday is because of Oregon’s tight end Jacob Breeland. Or rather the lack of Jacob Breeland. Breeland has been the favorite target of Oregon’s All-Everything quarterback Justin Herbert this season, catching 25 passes for 405 yards and 6 TD’s. He leads the team in each of those categories, but suffered a season ending injury last weekend when the Ducks demolished Colorado Buffaloes 45-3. However, with the depth of talent that is available on this Oregon roster, coach Lake knows that Oregon’s offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo will find a new way to try and exploit the young Husky defense.
We caught up with Jimmy Lake after practice today and he talked about his young Husky defense; How they performed last week vs Arizona, the emergence of DB’s Asa Turner and Trent McDuffie, and how the Dawgs plan to contain one of the best pro style quarterbacks in college football this weekend.
