New Dawg Report: Elishah Jackett
Elishah Jackett is the final piece of yet another excellent recruiting class for offensive line coach Scott Huff. Ranked by 247 Sports as the 27th-best offensive tackle in the class of 2023, he's the top player at his position in the state of California.
After his senior year, the product of El Modena High School was upgraded to a four-star recruit. He also earned a spot on the Max Preps All-State team, and is bringing a lot of elite tools to Montlake.
Standing at close to 6'7, and weighing in at 280 pounds, Jackett is a prototypical tackle, and his film backs it up. When he gets moving downhill, he moves defenders with ease, and he plays with great strength.
In the run game, he gets to the second level at will and consistently wins his first matchup. Once he moves on to a linebacker or defensive back, his running back has a huge hole which consistently results in at least a seven or eight-yard gain.
As a pass protector, like most high school prospects, there's still some work to be done, but he shows an advanced understanding of his position. At multiple points on his film, Jackett displays the ability to pass off assignments on a stunt, while keeping his eyes up to make sure the tackle coming his direction doesn't get by him.
At the college level, Jackett looks like he has the ability to play either tackle spot, but will probably start off on the right side, as that's where he plays in high school. However, he was asked to play right tackle since he has a left-handed quarterback, so a transition to the left side could also be in the cards.
It might take a few years before he sees the field, but one of the most exciting things about Jackett is his frame. If strength coach Ron McKeefery can help him add 35-40 pounds while retaining his athleticism, Huff has another star tackle on his hands.
