New Dawg Report: Landen Hatchett

What are the Huskies getting in the second Hatchett brother to commit to Washington?
In this story:

Ever since he arrived on campus, Scott Huff has been one of the best recruiters in the Pac-12. In 2020, he was able to reel in four-star guard Geirean Hatchett from Ferndale, Washington, who was one of the most sought-after interior offensive line recruits in the country. In 2022, he did the exact same thing with his younger brother Landen.

Landen committed to Washington at the end of June, following a historic week of official visits on Montlake. Just like his older brother, he's an excellent athlete and moves very well for his size.

Measuring in at 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, the younger Hatchett was upgraded to a four-star prospect following his performance on the all-star circuit. The rankers also clearly don't take hair into account, or else he would be a five-star. He participated in both the Under Armour All-America game, and the Polynesian Bowl, dominating at center in both games.

When you turn on his film, it shows an excellent center prospect. Finding an experienced center out of high school is difficult, but the Huskies have found one in Hatchett. He's great at pulling and knows how to work in space, and should fit very well in head coach Kalen DeBoer's offense.

However, there's a lot of work he needs to do before he hits the field. Ferndale, like a lot of high school teams, runs the ball a good majority of the time. So Hatchett will still have to learn a lot about pass blocking once he arrives on campus in April.

Getting to Washington in time for spring ball will certainly help give him a head start toward finding his way to the field, but it will certainly take a year, maybe two, before he sees action. Once he does though, there's a good chance he can play alongside his brother Geirean once again, who looks to have an opportunity to take over as the Huskies' right guard in 2023.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
