New Dawg Report: Tybo Rogers

The Huskies got a future star in the Bakersfield running back

Running backs coach Lee Marks has a very particular mold of running back that he's looking for on the recruiting trail. He found everything that he was looking for in Bakersfield High School's Tybo Rogers.

The California native is an exciting prospect who checks all the boxes for a future three-down running back. Ranked by the 247 Sports Composite as the 781st overall player in the country, as well as the 55th-ranked rusher, Rogers flew under the radar a little nationally, even after his commitment to Washington.

One of the most important things a running back needs to do in head coach Kalen DeBoer's system is catch the ball. Rogers is an excellent receiver who regularly lines up outside and can run a full route tree from anywhere in the formation.

Rogers is still learning the position, but his film shows that he has a knack for it. His two best attributes are his vision and speed, which make him a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He's able to create space when defenders collapse on him in the backfield and turn those plays into positives, and, when his offensive line makes a hole for him, he can hit the second level of a defense in a flash.

While his film shows a lot to be desired, there's still much work to be done before he hits the field. As one of the January enrollees, he's going to get a head start on adding muscle in the weight room. Listed at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, he's going to have to add at least 10-15 pounds to be able to take hits consistently at the college level.

Don't expect Rogers to take the field much in 2023. With a talented group of running backs in front of him, led by Dillon Johnson and Cameron Davis, there won't be a lot of snaps to go around. He might see a few opportunities early in the season, but in all likelihood, Rogers will have a chance to come into 2024 with a chance to be a major part of the rotation as a redshirt freshman.
