Oh Brother, Brueners Are Huskies' Latest Set of Siblings

Family ties show up throughout UW football roster.

One of the most repeated comments heard across the college football landscape, especially during recruiting, is a place feels like family.

At the University of Washington, it's more than a marketing or throwaway line.

The birth certificates don't lie in Montlake — a lot of guys in Husky uniforms are running around who answer to the same last name, are definitely blood related and play similar positions.

Jayvon and Armon Parker are young defensive tackles imported from Detroit and twins.

The Hatchetts, Geirean and Landen, are brothers from Ferndale, Washington, three years apart, who are competing for jobs across the offensive line.

And now, the Brueners, Carson and Braydon, are together as inside linebackers, siblings two years apart, and the sons of legendary UW and NFL tight end Mark Bruener.

Braydon Bruener joined the UW football team this spring, transferring in from Oregon State.

Braydon Bruener joined the UW this spring as an inside linebacker, playing alongside brother Carson.

This latest Bruener spent last season as a walk-on player at Oregon State before transferring his talents to the Huskies this spring.

"He told me he was planning on entering the portal, but he wasn't quite sure where he wanted to go," said Carson Bruener, a junior linebacker. "I obviously wanted him here."

While Braydon's strength no doubt is having Bruener athletic genes, his brother said his immediate weakness is size — his sibling is on the light side at 6-foot and 190 pounds, something that can be rectified.

"I came in at 200 pounds," said Carson Bruener, who currently carries a 6-foot-2, 233-pound frame. "It takes time to put on good weight. You don't want to get all fat and slow and stuff."

While Braydon Bruener learns the Husky playbook and his newfound responsibilities, he runs through the various linebacker drills with his sibling never far from him.

They last were teammates at Redmond High School in suburban Seattle for the 2019 season.

"Having him is pretty fun," Carson said, "to play with him again."
