As a way of introducing myself, I ask you the following: Who or what connected you to Husky football?

Here's the Dan Raley story: The first UW play I ever saw, watching on TV, was Steve Bramwell returning the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown against Air Force.

The first Huskies game I saw in person was a 22-7 rout of USC, as a young boy sitting in the highest row of the upper deck.

That first season ended with a Rose Bowl berth--against Dick Butkus!

Who wouldn't be interested in that?

There's more: My grandfather supervised half of Husky Stadium game-day operations for decades, from the beginning of the McElhenny era to the end of the Owens regime. For nine years, I was his errand boy. I wore a ribbon that gave me total access. My main job was running half of the attendance figures from one side to the other to be tabulated.

I grew up to become the UW beat writer for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, spending a decade on football, another on basketball. The Don James golden age (I'm the guy with the 'stache in the photo). The Romar run.

Steve Emtman was the most dominant UW football player I've seen. I wrote Brandon Roy's biography (let me know if you want one). The coolest Huskies athlete ever, with his name, number and swagger, remains Sonny Sixkiller.

A week and a half ago, I became the senior editor and writer for Husky Maven/Sports Illustrated. I couldn't stay away. I'm here to give you another perspective, history lessons, my opinion. UW football and basketball chatter all the time.

Reach out to us any time with a question or observation. Our Husky Maven team of Mike Martin, Kaila Olin and I intend to keep the conversation going. They've got video, stats and trivia. We're the ultimate source.
