Taylor Rapp Signs With The Buffalo Bills
Taylor Rapp has found himself a new home. The former second-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams has inked a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills after spending the first four years of his career in LA.
The University of Washington alumnus was ultra-productive during those four years, recording 330 tackles and nine interceptions over the span of his rookie contract. Rapp was also a key cog in the Rams' 2021-22 Super Bowl victory, recording a career-high four interceptions that year.
Rapp is a perfect fit for the system Bills head coach Sean McDermott likes to run on defense, and will probably play a role much like he did in college. He'll be asked to mainly play as their third safety, as the Bills love to put an extra safety on the field.
In all likelihood, Rapp will be utilized similarly to how he was during his time at Washington. He'll spend some time coming down into the slot to play man coverage, line up in the box to assist in run support, and sometimes line up as the single high safety.
After an injury he suffered in the 2018 Pac-12 Championship game, Rapp's draft stock fell to the end of the second round. The Rams took a chance on him and his former Husky teammate Greg Gaines, who recently signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in the 2019 NFL Draft.
While the monetary value of Rapp's deal hasn't been disclosed yet, he's going to a team that will utilize him to the best of his abilities. The Bills have had one of the top defenses in the NFL over the past few seasons, and have been productive in the secondary since McDermott took over.
