Tybo Rogers Next Man Up for Huskies in Transfer Portal

The talented freshman running back enters his name in the process.

Tybo Rogers never seemed long for the University of Washington football team, getting suspended when the season began and later kept at home from the Pac-12 championship game.

On Thursday night, the promising freshman running back from Bakersfield, California, revealed he has entered the transfer portal, maybe figuring one season in Montlake was more than enough for him.

The Huskies have had nearly two-dozen players turn to the portal since Jedd Fisch was hired as the coach, replacing Kalen DeBoer, who left for Alabama.

Rogers clearly brought a lot of talent as an elusive ball carrier and was given plenty of opportunity to play with Husky games on the line, but he couldn't steer clear of internal issues that sat him down.

He leaves the roster after appearing in 12 of the Huskies' 15 games — more than any other UW freshman — and rushing 44 times for 184 yards. He also caught 6 passes for 72 yards, with a long reception of 47 yards against California.

After he was forced to sit out the first two games of the season, Rogers made his UW debut at Michigan State and he was impressive while leading all rushers with 74 yards on 15 carries.

There was great hope for Rogers because he was one of DeBoer's earliest 2023 commits, arrived in Montlake even after USC came hard after him late in recruiting process and played for Rashaan Shehee, a former UW and NFL running back, who was his coach at Bakersfield High.

While the first-year player's team infractions were never spelled out, DeBoer said his player didn't break the law or any NCAA rules in the first instance.

Plenty of rumors surrounded Rogers' second run-in with the coaches, but he once again was able to regain his spot on the team.

At College Football Playoff media day in Houston, running back declined to be interviewed.
