Since his days at the University of Washington, Myles Gaskin always has been a very determined running back, someone who doesn't give in easy.

By now, the Miami Dolphins know this.

They've done everything to run him off over his four seasons in their employment and he still won't leave the Florida NFL franchise voluntarily.

On Friday night, the 5-foot-10, 194-pound Gaskin was a rare bright spot for the Dolphins in their 19-3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons to open the exhibition season.

To highlight his evening, he snapped off a 35-yard run, making four would-be tacklers miss him, as he rushed seven times for 57 yards to lead Miami in rushing. He also caught two passes for 20 yards.

This was more than double the output Gaskin generated all last regular season when, after a coaching change, he appeared in just four games and ran the ball only 10 times for 26 yards.

Entering his fifth season with the Dolphins, Gaskin has been a starter in 17 of 38 games, led the team in rushing, been placed on injured reserve, relegated to inactive status and re-signed in March to a free-agent deal worth $1.3 million, according to Over the Cap.

Still the UW's all-time leading rusher with 5,323 yards, Gaskin appears to trail fellow veterans Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson, plus rookie De'Von Achane, in landing a roster spot and likely is battling Husky teammate Salvon Ahmed for the fourth and final running-back role.

Yet performances such as his on Friday night, with that 35-yard burst into the open field, makes it harder and harder for the Dolphins to dismiss Myles Gaskin.
