Edge Deshawn Warner Talks Upcoming Washington Official Visit

The edge from Desert Edge will take his first visit to Montlake at the end of June

Three-star edge rusher Deshawn Warner recently unveiled his top four schools: Washington, Kansas, Texas, and Oregon State. The product of Desert Edge High School is a promising defender who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds and recently set up an official visit with all four schools on his list.

Warner, who hasn't visited Washington before, is scheduled to make his first trip to Seattle on June 20 for what should be the third of his four official visits. He said he hasn't set his visit date with Texas just yet but said it should be finalized "any day now."

When it comes to his relationship with the Husky coaching staff, Warner has been in close contact with a few coaches, especially edge rushers coach Eric Schmidt. "I feel great talking with him, I keep in great contact with Coach Schmidt and [director of player personnel] Courtney Morgan," he said. "I also got an opportunity to talk with Coach [Kalen] DeBoer and he was really great.

"Coach Schmidt talks to me a lot about the depth chart," Warner continued. "He tells me a lot that there's a chance for me to get on the field early since the edge rushers they have coming back in 2024 haven't played a lot of snaps yet, so there would be a chance for me to fight for a spot right away."

With four visits coming up in the month of June for Warner, he said it shouldn't take long for him to make a decision after that. "I plan on committing by the end of June or the beginning of July," he said. "I don't want to carry that big decision into my senior year."

If he can continue the success he saw as a junior, Warner could be one of the nation's biggest risers in terms of recruit rankings. Currently rated as the 1,056th overall player by the 247 Sports Composite, he has studied the film of a few of the NFL's best pass rushers to continue to improve his game.

"I love watching Micah Parsons, Jadaveon Clowney and Dorance Armstrong," Warner said. "I've learned a lot from studying them."

After recording 13 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two interceptions, and two touchdowns as a junior, Warner has bulked up to 225 pounds for his senior year. "I've put in a lot of work in the weight room and have put on 20 pounds since January," he said. "My next goal is to get to somewhere between 230-245 pounds before I enroll at whatever school I end up choosing next summer."

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
