Former Arizona 4-Star QB Signee Demond Williams Jr. Chooses UW
Former Arizona quarterback signee Demond Williams Jr. announced on Sunday that he is following new Washington coach Jedd Fisch to Seattle.
Williams, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound bundle of electricity, enrolled at UA last week after signing with the Wildcats as a 4-star quarterback out of Basha High School in Chandler, Arizona.
A week after the news broke that Fisch was leaving Arizona to fill the same role at Washington, Williams entered the transfer portal to explore his options.
The son of former Michigan State cornerback Demond Williams Sr., who played in the Big Ten Conference from 2005-06, didn't need long to see his future in purple and gold.
With the news coming out Saturday that redshirt freshman Noah Fifita is staying at Arizona the need for a quarterback increased with the UW entering the weekend holding just one scholarship signal-caller on the roster — freshman Dermaricus Davis.
Williams is expected to enroll at Washington before spring practices begin, a chance to get a head start to his college football career.
The Elite 11 finalist and All-American Bowl selection led Basha to a 10-2 record as a senior and showed his dual-threat ability combining for 54 total touchdowns — 34 passing and 20 rushing.
In addition to the freshmen quarterbacks, former Mississippi State transfer Will Rogers is also still in play to stay at Washington and play for Fisch.
Rogers entered the portal after former coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb left for Alabama, but remained in the area and attended the first team meeting Fisch held on Jan. 14.
Regardless whether Rogers stays or goes, Washington has a quarterback tailored to the offense Fisch wants to run on Montlake with the arrival of Williams.
