Huskies May or May Not Have Offered Short Arkansas QB
In the middle of the pandemic, it became sport for bored, housebound people to create bogus Twitter accounts and post fictitious college football recruiting announcements, and the University of Washington was among those targeted.
Remember the 5-star quarterback from Kansas City or someplace close to that who supposedly committed to the Huskies or received an offer, as did the can't-miss Florida cornerback, and there were others.
Thereafter, we've always been a little dubious when something doesn't quite fit the typical UW recruiting profile, when everything doesn't quite add up, on someone's disclosure.
Late in the afternoon on the Fourth of July, one Greyson "Ace" Miller — and we will apologize many times over if this is a real person with the football skills to match — announced he had received a scholarship offer from "Washington University" and included a photo of Husky quarterback Michael Penix Jr. in his post.
Miller supposedly is a 5-foot-10 dual-threat quarterback from Arkansas, though one recruiting site listed him at 5-foot-8.
He lists himself in the Class of 2026, which makes him a sophomore this fall. He describes him as the No. 4 quarterback in his state, 21st overall.
He's advertised as a dual-threat quarterback with a 40 time of 4.61, which seems a little slow ... at least for a multi-dimensional QB on the tiny side.
He just announced he is changing schools, too, from Central High School in West Helena, Arkansas, to Clarendon High in that town some 50 miles west, which will put him halfway between Little Rock and Memphis, Tennessee.
His 247 Sports profile shows he has offers from Fordham, South Carolina State, Bluefield State (had to look that one up), Fort Valley State, James Madison and the UW. Arkansas Baptist might be in there, too. Not exactly a blue-chip list, with the exception of the Huskies.
The photo we found of him comes from a University of Central Arkansas football camp, which is located in the bustling town of Conway, north of Little Rock.
We also unearthed the above video of him hitting a goal post with a pass from nearly 60 yards out.
While Kalen DeBoer's staff has been expanding the Husky football recruiting footprint, Arkansas has just not come up in the conversation before.
Ace Miller might be everything he says he is, and could turn out to be someone's signed quarterback recruit someday, and a legit college football player. We'll just have to sit back and see if his name comes up again in a Montlake conversation.
