Huskies Offer Another Long Snapper from Arizona

Washington extends a scholarship to one of the nation's top specialists

For his position, Cannon Skidmore has both the right and the wrong name.

He's a 6-foot-2, 205-pound long snapper and 2024 football recruit from Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Arizona.

That's Cannon, as in the ball should be shot out of one when he snaps it to a punter or place-kicker.

That's also Skidmore, as it better bounce less if not ever coming out of his hands.

This week, the University of Washington offered him a scholarship, his second following an initial one from Air Force over the past week.

With a different coaching staff, the Huskies found their current snapper, the fairly reliable Jaden Green, from the same Arizona locale, signing him to a scholarship from Mesa High School.

The compact 5-foot-11, 219-pound Green, who doesn't short himself in the weight room, resembles a small-college linebacker with his muscular physique.

He had disastrous career-opening snap during the pandemic weirdness of the 2020 season, sending one over former punter Race Porter's head against Oregon State, with the kick eventually getting blocked and returned for a score. But that was it for miscues over his three seasons in the program.

Skidmore has attended the requisite snapper camps put on by Kohl's and Rausch and ranked in the top 5 nationally for speed and accuracy. His UW scholarship offer came following his most recent outings.

He attended the recent Husky Spring Preview, was shown around by and took photos with support staffer Paul Creighton, who handles the UW special teams, and he more than likely was introduced to Green.
