Husky Target Dontae Carter Could Shine In Seattle
Washington needs a shot in the arm to get its recruiting back on track. As more and more targets have decided to commit elsewhere before taking their official visits to Seattle, it has become even more important for the coaching staff to close on targets that are still uncommitted.
One of those targets is three-star safety Dontae Carter. The product of Steele High School in Cibolo, Texas is currently ranked as the 637th overall prospect in the country and the Huskies are in a heated recruiting battle to secure his services.
He has already completed official visits to Nebraska and Texas Tech and will be taking a trip to Vanderbilt shortly after his visit to Washington concludes.

The Husky coaching staff has put an emphasis on recruiting safeties over its first few classes and the 6-1, 175-pound Carter fits the sceme co-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell wants to run in the secondary.
In his first year playing exclusively on the defensive side of the ball, Carter recorded seven interceptions and looks like the perfect mold of a flexible defender that Morrell could ask to play anywhere in the secondary. While he probably fits best as a free safety, Carter's frame could play well in the team's nickel or "Husky" role.
Carter is a menace when he's asked to play man coverage. He loves to play up in an opposing receiver's face and is very strong in press, rarely allowing a free release. He also has a nose for the ball to the point where he's able to come off his receiver and still record an interception.
As a free safety, not only does he cover a lot of ground but he's excellent at reading the quarterback's eyes. He displays a very high football IQ, rarely being caught out of position while always knowing his assignment and where he needs to help out his teammates.
Washington's recruiting class is currently ranked 95th in the country by 247 SPorts and while it certainly won't stay that low, earning a commitment from Carter would be a big step in the right direction for the coaching staff.
