Sacramento Line Recruit Draws First Scholarship Offer From UW
Packing a 6-foot-6, 300-pound frame, Josiah Sharma is a hard guy to miss.
Yet until Sunday, he didn't have a college football scholarship offer.
That changed when Kalen DeBoer's University of Washington football recruiters interrupted his Mother's Day activities to extend one to him.
Sharma plays both ways as a Class of 2025 lineman for Inderkum High School in Sacramento, California.
The recruiting sites list him as an offensive lineman.
The Huskies, with edge-rusher coach Eric Schmidt as the scholarship point man in this instance, might envision him coming off the defensive side.
Besides all of that bulk, Sharma also is a high school wrestler, demonstrating some notable athleticism for someone his size. Check out his ability to escape and throw down his opponent in the Twitter video below.
Sure he's only coming off of his sophomore season, but how this kid doesn't have more football scholarship offers to this point is a little baffling.
He has developing prospect written all over him.
This past season for a 5-6 Inderkum team, Sharma came up with this interesting stat line: 21 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a quarterback hurry, a pass break-up and ... 3 blocked field goals.
Fairly impressive for a 300-pound man child looking to make things happen.
A year ago, Sharma and his teammates sadly lost Inderkum assistant coach in Gregory Najee Grimes, who was shot to death while leaving a Sacramento nightclub. Grimes was an alum who played his college football as a defensive lineman for Boise State, enjoying considerable success. He was the son of Greg Grimes, a UW defensive back and Rose Bowl player in the 1970s.
