Washington Offers 2025 LB From New Mexico

The Huskies extended Mason Posa's first Power 5 scholarship offer.

Mason Posa, a linebacker from La Cueva High School  in Albuquerque, New Mexico, looks like a talented, flexible defender for the college level.

On Monday, Washington's co-defensive coordinator William Inge awarded the 6-foot-3, 205-pound recruit with a scholarship offer.

Following Posa's home state schools of New Mexico and New Mexico State, the Huskies became the third team to offer the 2025 prospect a scholarship. Not long after, Wisconsin followed suit and that could be a sign that other schools around the Big Ten might begin to take a look at the young linebacker.

Over his first two years of high school, Posa has accrued a long list of accolades in both football and wrestling. He was named first-team all-state in 2022 and won the state wrestling championship as a freshman and sophomore.

His background as a wrestler shows up right away on film. Posa is a sure tackler who lines up all over the field and plays with an endless motor. He lines up at inside and outside linebacker while also returning punts for La Cueva, but looks like he'll fit best as an inside linebacker at the college level.

Posa's best attribute is his speed, which he utilizes well as a standup edge rusher. That attribute would suit him best when asked to patrol the middle of the field since he's fluid in pass coverage and adept at identifying when and how to attack the run.

Washington has offered seven linebackers in the class of 2025. In what could be a fairly substantial class, the coaching staff could end up taking as many as three high school prospects at the position. Posa looks like he could quickly move up recruiting boards and be an important target for the Huskies.
