BREAKING: WVU P Ryan Bergert & SS Tevin Tucker Have Season-Ending Injuries

Mountaineers lose two starters for the upcoming season.

Thursday morning, WVU head baseball coach Randy Mazey announced that starting right-handed pitcher Ryan Bergert and starting shortstop Tevin Tucker will be out for the season. Mazey said that Tucker had surgery about a week and a half ago and Bergert had surgery in December but did not disclose what the injuries were.

Bergert was expected to be one of the Mountaineers' top pitchers on the roster as he was slated to be the No. 2 guy in the rotation. In 21 appearances, Bergert has posted a 4-1 record with 68 strikeouts to 19 walks in 58.2 innings of work with a 2.30 ERA.

As a freshman, Tevin Tucker started all 16 games for West Virginia before the season was cut short due to the pandemic. In those 16 games, Tucker had a .170 batting average with 4 RBI. He is one of the fastest players on the roster and will be a big loss for the Mountaineers, especially on the basepaths.
