Carlson Reed Selected in MLB Draft
In the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected WVU RHP Carlson Reed.
Reed, selected No. 104 overall, saw his summer in the MLB Draft League pay dividends today.
Reed's three seasons with the Mountaineers accumulated a 4.98 ERA and 136 strikeouts through 110.1 innings. Primarily used as a closer for the program, he allowed 121 hits and 70 runs in his career under head coach Randy Mazey.
He joins Pirates draftees Paul Skenes (RHP-1), Mitch Jebb (SS-42), Zander Mueth (RHP-67), and Garret Forrester (3B-73). Reed becomes the third pitcher in the Pirates' 2023 draft class, and the first Mountaineer taken off the list.
The slot value for that pick is $646,900.
