Injury Update on WVU Star JJ Wetherholt
West Virginia shortstop and projected top pick in the 2024 MLB First-Year Player Draft, JJ Wetherholt, suffered a hamstring injury in the team's final game of a four-game series with Stetson last weekend.
Wednesday morning, WVU head coach Randy Mazey opened up his mid-week availability providing an update of sorts on the injury.
“Too early to tell. Had some tests done yesterday and we’re waiting on the results. We’re taking it day by day.”
Mazey did not confirm whether or not it was the same hamstring that he injured in the past.
Junior Brodie Kresser moved from centerfield to short to fill Wetherholt's spot in the infield and according to Mazey, that will likely be the plan moving forward until they get clarity on the severity of Wetherholt's injury.
Kresser is a transfer from Des Moines Area Community College, where he hit .339 with 14 home runs, 87 RBI, 30 doubles and 22 stolen bases in 109 games.
