Traxel Claims NCBWA Co-Pitcher of the Week

West Virginia's Blaine Traxel named NCBWA Co-Pitcher of the Week

On Tuesday, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association named West Virginia starting pitcher Blaine Traxel as Co-Pitcher of the Week along with Illinois junior Jack Wenninger.

Traxel completed his first complete game shutout of the season on Saturday in a 10- series clinching road win over Baylor, improving his season record to 6-3. He held the Bears to holding Baylor to six hits, striking out six and did not issue a walk. It also marked the nation-leading fifth complete game of the season for the righty from Burbank, California.

Traxel leads the nation with 79.2 innings pitched and maintains a 3.05 earned run average with a team-leading 59 strikeouts. Traxel was also named Big 12 Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week.

Traxel and the Mountaineers will be back in action Wednesday night in the second game of a three-game season series of the Backyard Brawl with the first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. and streaming on ESPN+.
