West Virginia Continues to Climb the Rankings

The Mountaineers opened conference play with a series win at Kansas State and the voters are taking notice

The West Virginia Mountaineers are coming off a conference-opening road series win over the Kansas State Wildcats, marking the first Big 12 Conference member to win a road conference series this season. 

West Virginia holds a 21-7 record, and the recent road series win propelled the Mountaineers to 24th in the RPI and cracked Baseball America's top 25 to 19th and Collegiate Baseball's top 30 at No. 28. WVU moved up a spot in the NCBWA to 25 and held at No. 24 in D1Baseball and USA Today.

The Mountaineers rank third in the Big 12 in team batting with a .297 average and are second in the league in team ERA at 3.89.

Sophomore J.J. Wetherholt leads the Big 12 in batting average (.462), runs (36), hits (54) and stolen bases (24) and ranks second in doubles (14) and third in slugging percentage (.778) and on base percentage (.525).

The Mountaineers are back in action Wednesday evening to take on Marshall in Charleston at Appalachian Power Park with the first pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
