WVU Baseball second baseman JJ Wetherholt is taking names in the college baseball world, and he hasn't hit in a WVU lineup for nearly a month.

Wetherholt, currently working to carve his name into the Team USA Collegiate Baseball Team, was unstoppable this season. Now, he's continuing to reap the rewards. The Golden Spikes Award semi-finalist was named a First Team All-American today by Baseball America. This nod tacks on the sixth award of its kind for the sophomore Mountaineer phenom.

Baseball America's first team acknowledgement joins the NCBWA, ABCA, Perfect Game, College Baseball Foundation, and Collegiate Baseball News.

Wetherholt is the first Mountaineer to be selected to the first team by six publications, effectively passing now-Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah, who set the bar at five in 2019. Wetherholt now owns six of WVU's program 15 total first team awards.
