Are Black Uniforms Returning to WVU Basketball?
Over the last 24 hours or so, WVU fans on social media, particularly Twitter, have been pushing for the black uniforms to return to West Virginia basketball after hearing Jose Perez accidentally slip up about the possibility of them during a tour he was giving to Classic Kickz, a channel on YouTube.
"Yeah, that's what we wear in-game," Perez said. "'Cause we got the new AD, I think we got the black one, so we wear black next year."
So is that cat out of the bag? It appears to be. Once he saw the video make its rounds on Twitter, AD Wren Baker had a little fun with it giving Jose some trouble.
Baker actually discussed the possibility of the black uniforms fairly recently during an interview with the FinalFourcast.
"Philosophically, I tend to air on the side of respecting tradition but understanding what young people who are current student-athletes today want to wear matters. It matters in recruiting. I was reading an article recently about what's influencing recruiting decisions, I was amazed at how high photo shoots are rating up on kids' decision-making process.
"I feel like we ought to have some alternate jerseys. Without saying too much, I'm for alternate jerseys if it makes student-athletes happy and I understand within that, we've got to be respectful of tradition. I think it's going to be revisited and John [Flowers], I think you'll be really happy. I saw somebody wanted to know if we'll have them this year...Nike does not turn around uniforms that fast."
