Callihan: Six Players Who I'd Like to See on Best Virginia

There are more than a few players that would be fun to see participate in The Basketball Tournament.

The Basketball Tournament is just around the corner and Best Virginia, the West Virginia alumni team, is currently constructing its roster for this year's tournament. John Flowers, Kevin Jones, and Nathan Adrian are confirmed to play this year but there are still several spots left.

We'll likely see a lot of the same names that have played for the team in years past but below I compiled a list of players that have never played for Best Virginia that should consider it.

Deniz Kılıçlı (2010-13)

Kılıçlı may be 32 years old but he's still chugging along in his professional career as he currently plays for Pınar Karşıyaka in Turkey. He's one of the key members of the Final Four team that has yet to play for Best Virginia. He'd be another big body underneath that could do work on the glass.

Devin Williams (2013-16)

Williams was one of the best rebounders that Bob Huggins has had during his time at West Virginia. The dude wakes up with eight rebounds. TBT isn't full of big, broad-shouldered guys that play bully ball underneath. Williams would bring a different element to the game and would work nicely alongside Kevin Jones in the paint. Williams currently plays for the Jiangsu Dragons in China.

Jordan McCabe (2018-21)

I know McCabe didn't play his entire career at West Virginia but he still played three years in the Old Gold & Blue. He's a terrific ball-handler and can help facilitate the rock in a reserve role. He might not see a ton of action in his first TBT but he'd be a great option for the backcourt. Plus, he could help drive even more eyes to Best Virginia with his social media presence.

Taz Sherman (2019-22)

Best Virginia has had some scorers in previous tournaments but I don't know if there's a more natural one than Taz Sherman. He averaged 13 and 17 points respectively over his final two years in Morgantown and shot 35% from three-point land. He is currently playing professional ball for Budapest Honvéd in Hungary.

Kedrian Johnson (2020-23)

There may not be a better fit for Best Virginia than Keddy Johnson. The way he gets after people on defense is exactly the piece this team has needed. He's fresh out of college, so he doesn't have as many miles on his legs as some of these other guys do around TBT, so he can really wear down opposing guards.

Erik Stevenson (2022-23)

Had to include Erik Stevenson. I mean, if Best Virginia wants someone who could explode for 30 on any given night, this is their guy. In his lone year at WVU, Stevenson shot 38% from beyond the arc. The energy and swagger he brings to the table is unmatched and is something that could really get the Best Virginia fans fired up during regional play.
