Huggins Says What We're All Thinking When It Comes to KU's Home Dominance

Phog Allen Fieldhouse is one tough place to play.

With Saturday's loss to Kansas, the Mountaineers now sit at 16-13 on the se...oops. Did I get ahead of myself? Pardon me, I just assumed that with the game being played at Kansas, we could go ahead and chalk it up as a loss for WVU.

That's not a shot at the players, it's just reality. Very few visitors leave Phog Allen Fieldhouse with a smile on their face. Oftentimes, it ends in frustration from blowing a double-digit lead or a coach getting ejected for not taking a liking to how the game is being officiated.

Bob Huggins has seen it happen all too often. His teams are 0-10 all-time playing at "The Phog" but have come close to winning on several occasions. For various reasons, things fell apart and it left WVU with the same result each trip out - a loss.

Bill Self has a home record of 305-17 which spans across 20 seasons. Losing 17 games in 20 years in a building you play in close to 20 times a year is unheard of. There's no other venue in college basketball that has seen that type of success. In fact, nothing even comes close.

Kansas has always had elite talent, particularly guys that can shoot the ball at a high clip. That's no different with this year's team, who went 11/24 from three-point range in the first matchup with WVU.

While noting their shooting prowess, Huggins slid in a comment about how lucky the Jayhawks have been over the years.

"I think their shot-making ability affects everybody. They make shots. They make shots but they've also got a ton of breaks. If you want to look back over the history of the deal, I mean, come on. They've gotten incredible breaks that nobody else has got. Nobody else gets outside of there."

Why is it that no matter how well WfVU plays, they always fall short? Well, if you've watched each of the ten WVU/Kansas matchups in Lawrence, it's fairly obvious.

"What we ought to do is we ought to go back and look at a lot of the games that were played there and then you would know," Huggins said. "I mean, you'd seen it with your own two eyes and then I think you could make quite a case of why they win there all the time."
