Huggs: 'I'll Blast Their A** If They Don't Let These Guys in the Tournament'
West Virginia fell to 0-11 all-time at Phog Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday, but had a chance to win the game with the ball in their hands for the final shot of regulation. Kansas did a good job taking everything away from the play Bob Huggins drew up, forcing Joe Toussaint to take a low-percentage mid-range shot. KU held on, 76-74.
With the loss, WVU now sits at 16-13 (5-11) on the season. And with upcoming games against Iowa State and Kansas State, the Mountaineers will likely enter Selection Sunday firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
According to head coach Bob Huggins, this team shouldn't have to worry about whether they'll get invited to the big dance. He believes they've done more than enough to punch their ticket.
"We have far and away and it's not even close, the best strength of schedule in the country. And if that doesn't mean something to the committee, shame on them. And I think not just that, I think you look at our scores, we deserve to be in the tournament. They give you all that b.s. about play a strong schedule and then you play a strong schedule. Well, if they continue to tell you to do that then by God they ought to hold up their end of the bargain. I told our guys, I don't think really we have anything to worry about. And I will blast their a** as far and as long as I can if they don't let these guys in the tournament. After years and years of 'play a competitive schedule', the 'best teams are the teams that play the best strength of schedule'. We have played the best strength of schedule and it's not arguable. So they ought to get credit for it."
