Is Bob Huggins Done Coaching?

The Hall of Famer resigned as the head coach of WVU, but will he ever return to coaching?

Bob Huggins had one hell of a run as the head coach at West Virginia. He led the Mountaineers to 345 wins in his 16 years on the job and took the program to its first Final Four since 1959.

For the last handful of years, fans around the state have wondered how much longer he would continue coaching.

Would he ride off into the sunset after one more deep tournament run?

Would the new era of the transfer portal/NIL run him off?

Neither happened.

Instead, two incidents over the course of a month is what brought his time at West Virginia to an unexpected, disappointing end. Following a DUI arrest earlier this month, Huggins submitted his resignation to the university with "intentions to retire."

But is this really the end of the Hall of Fame coaching career of Bob Huggins?

It sure seems like it.

I know the idea has been kicked around that Huggins maybe takes this year off to focus on his health and learn from his mistakes only to return next season. Although it could very well happen, I don't see a scenario in which he's back in a head coaching seat.

Now, could he take on a senior advisor role somewhere? Sure.

Head coaching role? Can't see it.

For it to happen at West Virginia, there's a whole lot more that goes into it than just getting the 'okay' from athletic director Wren Baker. President Gordon Gee, and the rest of the board members have to come to an agreement on it and one can assume that the trust between the two sides has been fractured.

And although I can't speak for the man, I don't see him taking a head coaching job anywhere else. West Virginia is where he wanted to finish his career even if it wasn't necessarily the way he envisioned going out.

For WVU's side of things, this is an opportunity to move into a new era. This will be Josh Eilert's team for at least the next ten months and during that time, he'll have every chance to prove that he should be the permanent head coach. If for whatever reason Eilert doesn't do a satisfactory job, Baker will look to an external candidate, not Bob Huggins.
