Jesse Edwards is 'Getting Closer' to Returning

West Virginia could really use its big man.

Nineteen games into the 2023-24 regular season and the West Virginia Mountaineers have yet to play a single game with the full roster at its disposal.

Senior big man Jesse Edwards has been out for over a month with a fractured wrist which occurred in the loss to UMass. The initial timeline for his return was four weeks, but the training staff is being extra careful in his return to play process, as they should. He is however inching closer to getting back on the floor, according to WVU interim head coach Josh Eilert.

"We're getting closer. We just have to make sure we don't do wrong by him. It's a bigger picture for Jesse. We got to make sure he's 100% before we throw him out there. I don't want to have any setbacks with him."

Edwards went through pregame warmups last Saturday before the Kansas game and did some stretching on the side ahead of Tuesday's matchup with UCF. West Virginia will have the next couple of days off before going at it with Oklahoma State on Saturday - a team who has yet to win a conference game.

In 10 games this season, Edwards is averaging 14.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.

West Virginia and Oklahoma State will tip off at 2 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
