Jose Perez Bolts From ASU Ahead of PAC 12 Tournament
Jose Perez was expected to play a big part in what West Virginia did offensively this season, but due to a disagreement between he and interim head coach Josh Eilert over attending study hall, he was dismissed from the program.
Eilert did not go much into details of the two parting ways, but told reporters that there were some non-negotiables that he set forth in the very first team meeting after being named the interim.
Perez eventually landed with Arizona State in the transfer portal, but didn't even complete a full season with the Sun Devils. Prior to their regular season finale against UCLA, it became known that Perez was not with the team and afterward, head coach Bobby Hurley provided an explanation.
"Jose is not going to be with the team moving forward. He's decided to take a position overseas, so he'll be playing overseas the remainder of the season."
Leaving before the end of the season is quite the move. There was one game left in the regular season and considering how things have gone for the Sun Devils this year (14-18), you're probably talking about another game or two, at most. No one is going to blame Perez for taking the opportunity overseas, but the timing of his departure is not a good look. Run through the PAC 12 tournament with your teammates and see what happens. Professional opportunities will still be there after ASU is eliminated.
In 30 games this season. Perez averaged 13.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 40% from three.
