Official: Battle, Farrakhan Cleared to Play the Remainder of the Season
Monday afternoon, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced Judge Bailey of the U.S District Court for the Northern District of Northern West Virginia in Wheeling has signed the order to allow college athletes immediate eligibility.
"Our preliminary victory is now official," Morrisey said. "The judge has signed the order ensuring that RaeQuan Battle, Noah Farrakhan, and all athletes impacted by the temporary restraining order issued last week will be able to play basketball without fear of repercussions through the end of the season."
Judge Bailey issued a 14-day restraining order on the NCAA transfer rule on Wednesday Dec. 13 allowing college athletes immediate eligibility during the 14-day window with no repercussions on the college athlete's future eligibility, and a hearing was set for Dec. 27.
However, after the NCAA initially agreed to the TRO, the NCAA then stated any college athlete that played during the 14-day window would lose a year of eligibility if the ruling was reversed, prompting the seven state coalition led by Ohio Attorney General David Yost to file a joint motion with the NCAA requesting an extension of the temporary restraining order through the remainder of the winter and spring Calendar against the NCAA’s transfer eligibility policy on Friday (Dec. 15) that was signed on Monday.
