Pitt Players Take Jab at WVU When Asked About Extension of the Brawl
West Virginia and Pitt agreed to extend the Backyard Brawl series for men's basketball through the 2028 season on Thursday.
A couple of hours after the news came out, Pitt had media availability and a reporter asked two of the players, Jaaland Lowe and Zack Austin, about their thoughts on getting to play in Morgantown again.
Lowe: "West V? Yeah, I'm ready. I loved it down there. It was great."
Austin: "It was real fun...winning."
Lowe: "It's like a second home."
Pitt won this year's matchup at the WVU Coliseum 80-63, but of course West Virginia didn't have Kerr Kriisa, Noah Farrakhan, or RaeQuan Battle for that game and it was the first game back for Akok Akok after having a medical scare in the exhibition against George Mason. Austin recored zero points in that game while Lowe chipped in six in eight minutes of action.
Pitt's win over the extremely shorthanded Mountaineers marked their first win over WVU since January 30th, 2012. West Virginia leads the all-time series, 101-89.
