Quick Hits: Senior Day, Tournament Hopes, Injury Update, Improved Defense + More

WVU head coach Bob Huggins met with the media ahead of the regular season finale vs K-State.

What senior day is like for coaches

"Emotional. You spend so much time with those guys you hate to see 'em go. It's a tough day, particularly when you've had guys for four years."

If he got what he wanted out of the newcomers/seniors

"Yeah, I think we have. I mean, we've had absolutely no issues with their practice habits, their work ethics in practice. I mean, obviously, we'd all like to have won more."

Tournament hopes

"We need to win tomorrow just to take all doubt away. I think we're fine now. But I think we would feel more comfortable sitting there when the pairings are introduced if we had one more win."

Any update on Mohamed Wague or James Okonkwo

"No. I was just teasing Mo in the hallway a little bit, but he's still in a boot. [James] was good yesterday."

Improvement throughout the season

"I think we've gotten better and better as the season has gone on. If we were playing now, I don't think the games that we lost early on we would have ever lost. It's the way of the world right now but when you take guys and try to fit them in with guys that have been here or guys from another style, another way of playing, it's going to take some time."

Transfers getting accustomed to the Big 12

"This is the most competitive, physical league in the country. Barring none. And they haven't experienced that before. I don't care where they came from. They haven't experienced how athletic this league is. This is an incredibly athletic league and it doesn't get its due."

If this is a good defensive team now

"They're a much better defensive team. And I think what happened in Ames the other day, I don't know if it's possible for a lot of teams to be able to do. To make the comeback that we made without our bigs. We only had one big. And at the end of the game, the only big we had was Emmitt [Matthews], who I really don't consider a big."
