Score Predictions for West Virginia at Texas

We make our picks for the Mountaineers' road matchup versus the Longhorns

The West Virginia Mountaineers (8-14, 3-6) are on the road to take on the Texas Longhorns (15-8, 4-6) Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 3:00 EST and the action will broadcast on the Longhorn Network.

MBB Preview Graphic Texas

Schuyler Callihan: Texas 74, West Virginia 68.

Having the past week off should pay off great for the Mountaineers. They didn't just need the rest, they needed time to be able to establish a chemistry and an understanding of how one another plays rather than doing so on the fly in Big 12 play.

Because they were able to establish that during the week, I believe we'll see a more well-rounded product moving forward. The only trouble with today's game is everything stacks up against them. They're facing a desperate Texas team, whom they've already beat and are playing them on their home floor.

West Virginia looks like a completely different team on the road offensively, but with Jesse Edwards a couple of games back into it maybe that changes. I see the Mountaineers hanging around before the Horns "pull away" in the final minute.

Christopher Hall: Texas 79, West Virgina 71

West Virginia has not won away from the Coliseum this year and faces a Texas team looking to regain momentum after dropping three of the last four. The Longhorns did, however, split a six-game stretch of top 25 opponents.

The Mountaineers knocked off Texas in Morgantown by three and the Longhorns are undoubtedly seeking revenge.

Texas' leading scorer, guard Max Abmas (17.7 ppg) scored a season-high 32 points in Morgantown and forward Dylan Disu went for 18 points. I suspect other Longhorns will get in the action in round two and win the battle on the boards this time around, although WVU was only +1 in the win.

West Virginia has shot 38.9% from the field, including 33.3% from three-point range in four Big 12 road games. The Mountaineers went 10-22 from behind the arc in the last road loss to Oklahoma State, held a five-point lead with four minutes remaining but with a minute remaining and a two-point advantage, the Mountaineers were held scoreless, and I suspect the Longhorns will do the same against WVU except earlier in the contest.

Texas wins 79-71.
