Score Predictions for West Virginia vs. Drexel

Our staff makes picks for tonight's game between the Mountaineers and Dragons.

The West Virgina Mountaineers (3-5) welcome the Drexel Dragons (5-4) Saturday evening. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. with the action streaming on ESPN+.

Schuyler Callihan: West Virginia 68, Drexel 63.

Morgantown, WV native and longtime Mountaineer fan Zach Spiker will lead his Drexel team into the Coliseum Saturday evening looking to win its second game against a high-major in as many chances.

The Dragons recently took down No. 18 Villanova in a slug it out throwback game in which they came out on top, 57-55. Much like West Virginia, Drexel doesn't pose much of a threat behind the three-point arc shooting just 26% on the season. They do much of their work on the offensive end in the painted area, primarily focused around Amari Williams.

If you like up and down games, this one is not for you. Expect it to be a defensive struggle, especially in the early going. I'll take the Mountaineers snapping their two-game skid.

Christopher Hall: West Virginia 65, Drexel 64

If West Virginia can hit some shots from the outside, the Mountaineers will prevail. However, the Mountaineers will still need to clean the glass and get to the 50/50 balls which WVU has struggled with in the latter stages of games due to fatigue with a short bench.

Drexel has a rim protector in forward in two-time CAA Defensive Player of the Year Amari Williams and the senior leads the team in scoring with 11.7 ppg along with averaging 7.3 rebounds per game.

Dragons guard Luke House can get hot from the outside. The senior guard hit four threes in the fourth game of the season for a season-high 20 points against Temple.

Getting looks around the rim may prove difficult with Williams roaming the paint. WVU forward and leading scorer Quinn Slazinski (17.4 ppg) is shooting a team-high 36.4% from behind the arc. Center Jesse Edwards is second on the team in scoring with 16.3 ppg. The Mountaineers will need to find one or two more scorers to get back in the win column and it will probably need to be a group effort. West Virginia finds a way and guts a narrow victory 65-64.
