Score Predictions for West Virginia vs. Toledo
The West Virginia Mountaineers (4-7) welcome the Toledo Rockets (6-5) to the WVU Coliseum Saturday afternoon. Tip-off set for 1:00 p.m. and streaming on ESPN+.
Schyler Callihan: West Virginia 70, Toledo 67.
There aren't many winnable games on the upcoming schedule for the Mountaineers, but this is one of them. This is an absolute must-win game and although the Rockets have had a challenging start to the year, I think they hang around in this one due to their ability to shoot the three-ball.
Toledo has a balanced starting five that features four averaging double figures. WVU hasn't been known for putting on a defensive masterclass night in and night out, so they'll give up more looks than they should.
West Virginia wins a nailbiter.
Christopher Hall: West Virginia 71, Toledo 68.
Team chemistry has been an issue since the start of the season with all the players coming into the program but the injury to center Jesse Edwards last week has given another obstacle for the Mountaineers to overcome.
West Virginia did have guards RaeQuan Battle and Noah Farrakhan join the team on the floor following the recent NCAA court ruling. Farrakhan produced 15 and 16 points in his first two games as a Mountaineer and Battle put up 29 points in his debut Wednesday night but WVU suffered losses in both games.
West Virginia has not rebounded well the last four games and despite winning the rebounding battle six of the first seven games, tying once, they have been outrebounded the last four games. Subsequently, the Mountaineers have lost four of the last five games.
The Mountaineers have the talent to win but will need to dig deep and will need to win the rebounding battle and grab 50/50 balls to end the skid.
West Virginia finds a way late to end its two-game skid for a 71-68 victory.
